Things to do
Burnside is in an excellent position to explore the middle and north of Skye
Walking and climbing and sightseeing.Being centrally positioned Burnside is a good base for exploring the Trotternish peninsular with the old man of Storr and the Quiraing with its weird rock formations.
The pretty Waternish peninsular is also easily accessible, with the little port of Stein and the oldest inn on Skye.
Golf is offered at the Skeabost country house hotel which is within walking distance from the cottage. River fishing can also be arranged through them.
Dunvegan Castle is about 15 miles to the west.
Boat trips are available from Portree and seal sighting trips from Dunvegan.
The port of Uig is about a 40 minute drive away and from here boats leave for the outer isles, day trips are available throughout the summer season.
Horse riding is also available nearby.
Wildlife is abundant on Skye. Otters can be sighted and around the coast dolphins porpoise and the occasional basking shark can be seen.
Bird watchers are well catered for and many waders can be viewed from the lounge window at low tide. More information from www.skye-birds.com
Eating out. The Skeabost country house hotel is within walking distance and provides high standard meals and bar snacks.
Portree has many places to enjoy a meal and a little further away several restaurants are to be found around Dunvegan.
